Within the detailed design part of
Sam there are several components
covering the design of
reinforced concrete sections and the
capacity of any section and the
design of various types of bridge beam
(or girder).
The beam
design modules operate best if
their tables of moment, shear and axial
force are derived from the analysis
modules, as this saves much time and
labour compared to entering them by
hand or cutting and pasting from
spreadsheets. For the Eurocodes,
generating these spreadsheets is
exceptionally complicated, so
Sam has a double benefit here.
The types of bridge girder handled are:
- Steel concrete composite bridge
beams (due soon)
- Precast pretensioned concrete
bridge beams
- Reinforced concrete bridge beams
Within the
analysis part of Sam there is a
wide range of capabilities from line
beams through offset grillages to
finite elements, including stage
construction, bridge dynamics and
bridge traffic load optimisation.
The analysis modules are all optimised
for bridge deck analysis which gives
superb useability for bridge engineers.
They operate best if their input data
is derived from the section and beam
modules, since that way all the section
properties and self weights are already
known and this saves much time and
effort.
