Module Title:
A.04 - Advanced analysis of general structures including finite element capability
Description
This module allows the creation of beam and plate finite element type structures such as plane frames, space frames, plane grillages, offset beam grillages and complex 3D finite element models. Member properties can be assigned by specifying section files created by the section property module (S.01), by using in-built libraries of standard shapes, by using parametric shapes, by specifying actual values of the properties, or by associating beams created in the beams modules (B.01, B.03, B.04 and B.05). Members can have many types of property, such as tension only, inactive etc. Stage construction is permitted.
Traffic loads for bridges for the Eurocodes can be placed by the user in areas of maximum influence, aided by the influence surface generator. Alternatively the live load optimization module (A.08) can be used automatically to place compilations of loads in the optimum locations in accordance with the Eurocodes.
After analysis, results can be filtered as needed, and exported to worksheets or other programs via the Windows clipboard. To aid reporting for girders made up of beam elements and plate finite elements, composite members can be defined which automatically sum the results at a cross section thus allowing the easy reporting of total moments or shears (for example).
Tables of moment, shear and axial actions can be exported to the relevant beam files for design. It is then possible to do the design and check the beam's adequacy almost immediately. If the beam changes it is simple to re-incorporate it into the model and re-analyse, re-export and then re-check the design.
